2 kids and a wife? advice greatly changes- save for the kids college!!

a mildly modded evo (could run low 12s pretty cheap and trap 115ish) sounds like a better plan than a car that will cost you 20-40k PLUS the cost of the car PLUS upkeep.

older car- 2001 SE w/PP I/H/E/ss/spec V springs/shocks
old car- 2007 mazdaspeed3 'stockish'
current- 2006 wrx limited 112 mph traps

I agree: family first but with that being said I have a friend that ran consistant 12.1s in his VIII with 280* cams, AEM EMS, TBE, JICs (suspension made a big difference) stock turbo and a $1200 Exedy clutch. I hear the IXs can run quicker than that because of the variable valve timing...don't take that to the bank because I know little about EVOs. Trust me, that thing was fast!! I said "was" because it's now a 2.4 with a GT35R and because it's been in the shop with countless problems ever since he upgraded the turbo had the motor built. Before, his biggest problem was 15mpg and going through a set of tires every 10k miles.

Be a man! Get the IS300 and turbocharge it! Your kids don't need to go to college when their dad has a 700hp+ car that will be a pain to maintain!

Get a supra, bring it to 700hp
Buy a 4dr civic for the family

It will end up being roughly the same price as trying to get 700hp out of any of those 3 and both the supra and civic will be much more reliable.

700+hp why?
thats just too much.
for the street it makes no sense.
you want something you can drive around and race stuff just get the EVO and send it to AMS give em 10k and you will have over 500hp easy.
700 hp is just obsene.really no reason to have a car with so much power on the street. how often do u run into a car with 600 hp in it? not really often.buy a brand new z06. there comfy. they drive like a normal car until you drop that gear down. otherwise get the evo, why would you want your kids in a car with 700 hp under the hood? not really smart. want a family car get a van. u want a race car get a race car. dont mix them up
you can easy beat anything with over 500 hp under the hood.
dont spend your money on old *** cars that you didnt put together your self or really dont know the past of. send the evo to AMS and get it done the right way or any shop that does evos.
you will be satisfied and hey you could even drive it in the winter
anything over 500 hp is pretty much over kill.

I think it is always nice to have extra horsies under the hood. However, I agree with you, anything over 500hp on the street is overkill. I'd be satisfy with just 400hp daily driver.

In my experience, most people who say they want a car with that much power have never driven anything even close to it, so they really don't know what they're talking about.

Anything over about 500 is getting kind of ridiculous and to be perfectly honest, a little dangerous for the street...
