For a more reliable study of reliabilty, try visiting www.corvetteforum.com instead of your local drag strip.

I'm actually heavily involved in the Chevy scene.. I've built several 500+hp N/A LSx motors.. I don't need to go on a forum to check up on reliability and performance. The vette is a decent car.. but, it's hyped up and over-priced IMO.. The car is noisy and uncomfortable.. I've driven 2 new Z06's, and while they are insanely fast.. I would NOT want to have one as a daily driver. The powertrain is what you're paying for.. In 5 years, it'll be worth half of what you paid for it.. and it'll squeak/rattle just like the C5's do today. The GT-R will probably go up in value.. or at the very least.. hold close to it's retail price.

A new Z06 will cost you close to 80K.. or, roughly the same price as a GT-R with similar options.

Doesn't matter.. there has been independent and company testing for the last 2 years. The numbers are out there already.

Corvettes have always been built for speed and not necessarily for comfort. You say that within 5 years it would be worth half its value? I wouldnt say thats all that bad. How about in 30 years how much do you think it will be worth? I know that if my dad still had his 76 stingray it would be worth 20-30k. Thats 300% over what he paid for it. Most cars today will easily lose half their value in 5 years.

That's what I'm saying.. I wouldn't want to spend 80K on a daily driver that was uncomfortable and loud. Anyone can stick a huge engine into a lightweight chassis, and make it fast.. but, it takes thought (and money) to build a fast car where you can drink your coffee and listen to Sinatra as you cruise through the Canyons..

Look at what Skylines are worth today..? People are paying more than double the price for a R34 GT-R in mint condition. Try finding (much less buying) a 70's model Syline in mint condition.. Won't happen. I wouldn't pay 30K for a 70's model stingray.. That car is so plentiful.. it can be had for WAY less than 30 grand.

99% of cars, including Corvettes, produced nowadays are produced in large enough numbers to prevent them from ever appreciating much at all as classics.

That's your gig isn't it?

One thing you guys left out is that it would have taken a good bit of money to keep the 76 stingray running this long & some restraint to keep it in one piece.

Lol if you think am 07 Vette will still be running in 30 years you're dreaming. You see more 70's Vettes then 80's because they just don't last that long anymore. If you get 10 years out of a new Vette count yourself VERY lucky.

And since this has become a Vette vs. GTR thread - which model of Vette comes with AWD again? Right. . . so at NO price point is there a Vette with 'comparable' features to a GTR. A Z06 costs upwards of almost 80K with options and a new base GTR starts around 60K. Thats a big damn difference.

Hey, guess what: Chevy doesn't pose the Z06 as a daily driver, but a supercar at a bargin price.

Good condition C5's still go for > $30K, much more than half the sticker price.

There are plenty of C5 Corvettes running over 150k miles while modified.

I'm not sure where you are going, but at the shows I attend, there are always more 80's than 70's Corvettes present. Always.

First, no one knows that a base GT-R includes. Second, no one knows what the U.S. GT-R pricing is because it hasn't been announced.

Lol - you skipped the AWD comment - I wonder why. . .

Also don't forget the GT-R comes with 2 turbos - meaning horsepower is just a boost controller away. Much easier to extract more HP from a FI engine then a NA one.

the vette vs gt-r is a never ending debate.....it's almost as bad as the spec v vs SI debate back in the day.

I would never consider the vette a supercar. It may have supercar performance, and compete with supercars, but it is not one and never will be in my eyes. It's a raw performance machine and it gets the job done.

People shopping for the GT-R, 911, and other cars in that category are looking for an all around performance car, not just raw performance, which is really all the Z-06 has to offer.

According to Nissan's Press Release here:

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/24/t...1-nissan-gt-r/

These are the Japanese prices:
Quote:
GT-R GR6-type dual 7,770,000 = $67,979 USD
4WD VR38DETT GT-R Black edition clutch 7,927,500 = $69,357 USD
GT-R Premium edition transmittion 8,347,500 = $73,031 USD
Now, I'm not saying that is what it will cost. But those prices aren't bad. Considering that is what a US imported R34 GT-R will cost you.
