Very interesting

Nissan has as wide range of cars not available in the U.S. that are pretty interesting. The hatchback with the built-in roof spoiler is kinda cool.

I'm a bit skeptical on their assessment of the Spec V though, it seems as they have never driven it but are still condemning it. Sure, it's no Sunny GtiR but still a pretty good "driver's car" in my opinion that doesn't have "rubbery" shifter at all.

Ah well, everyone has an opinion.

the sunny is here in the middle east also, i see them all the time when they actually let us off base and go into the towns. The sunny rear is nice, but the front end reminds me of a cheezy G20 style. nice, but definately not sport.

and yes, we can use nismo sunny parts, what few are available. but.....do you really want to pay that shipping?!!

OK, people, since this comes up VERY often, a brief recap of the Nissan "naming" conventions.

Sentras are in the car category classified as Class C by european standards. A is mini-cars, B is super-minis, C is small sedans, D is large sedans (G20-Primeras are in class D) and so on.

Nissan has basically TWO (2) chassis platforms in the C-class. The B platform and the N platform. They are very close to each other, almost like identical twins. The underbody, suspension, etc. are identical. The main differences are in some external body parts, emmision related stuff and other "want-to-have" parts like LSDs, wings, etc.

Now, rule of thumb for comparing B and N platforms:

B12=N13
B13=N14
B14=N15
B15=N16.

So basically, when you go for Japanese or European aftermarket parts, check the chassis specification of the car. If you want parts for B14 look for ANY car with the B14 or N15 chassis, B13 look for B13/N14, B15 look for B15/N16.

Naming is dependent on the country-area it is sold and the "perceptions" of the Nissan marketing department on what a proper name would be.

Sentra is used mostly in the US.
In Europe N13 and N14 were called Sunnys. N15 and N16 are called Almera. In Japan it is either Pulsar or Sunny. As U know, B13 in Maxico are Tsurus. I could go on and on for a page detailing various names etc. but they change throughout the years.

Instead, lets just describe what B or N Nissan were in production in 2001.

B13.
Tsuru in Mexico, Sentra (made in Mexico) in limited quantities in the Carribean and Central America.

N14. Sentra in South Africa.

B14.
Sunny (sedan only) in the Middle East, Sunny in Thailand and Beunei, Sentra in Philippines and Taiwan, Sunny NIP in Singapore.

N15. Almera or NX Almera in Italy, Almera in Latin America & Carribean.

B15.
Sunny in Japan, Sentra (sedan only) in US, Sentra in Latin America & Carribean.

N16.
Almera in Europe, Sunny in Hong Kong and Singapore, Sentra in Thailand, Malayisa, Taiwan, Almera in Brunei, Yiang Guang!!! in China, Sunny in the Middle East, Pulsar in Australia & NZ, and "Sunny Almera" in South Africa.

I may have forgotten something or mixed-up something else but you get the idea.

Very nice, thanks for clearing that up for everyone.

So, now you all know that you should be looking for Almera N16 parts or Sunny N16 parts and not Sunny european parts as they may be for B14s.
