dash gurgling sound

I have an 03 V, 43K miles. Just recently, I've notices a sound from behind the dash that is heard from above idle to about 2000 rpms that sounds like a gurgling sound (like when there is air in the water system and its going through a heater core). My water level hasn't changed and nothing is running strangely, but it sounds like a small rodent trying to escape from under the dash just to the right of the gauge cluster. I installed the AC indiglo cluster layover last winter, but it doesnt appear to be scraping. Any suggestions or anyone ever heard of/heard this? I couldnt imagine anything mechanical behind the dash since most of that is electronic.

thanks
jw

hahaha, it may be the infamous foam snakes, the crappy insulation that nissan uses for our cars. they can make a scratchy noise, and dont be surprised if one comes flying out at you.

I already had that after having the car for about a month, I had the defrost on full blast and this long arse foam insulator came flying out.

Do you have the fresh air vent open or closed? Is anything on? I had this noise on my truck, it was a loose o-ring on the heater line.

Do you have an intake with possibly a loose fitting?

The part that gets me is the 0-2000RPM

The fresh air vent is open all the time unless I'm defrosting. Then I checked the lines going into the heater core, and they have pressure. Squeezing them I heard nothing. It just sounds like a jug of water sloshing around when I slightly rev it. It could be a loose o-ring, but I dont know if its anything at all.. it went away for today it seems. Nothing is running weird, I'm not losing water and there are no puddles or smells....

but that insulator snake did freak me out, that thing blows some hot air.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm getting this exact same noise and was wondering if anyone had more info on it?

BTW: I have an 03 Spec-V, 50k on the clock, and NO mods.

Only thing i've read about that involved gurgling noises was a failing headgasket. You could PM truraza; he's on pretty regularly.

When you say "no mods", you mean "no mods except a header & loctiting the butterfly screwses" right?

Nope, I mean "no mods".

After doing a little more research I'm thinking that it's air in the cooling system.

http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=135241 I suggest a kitten-free header.

It can be challenging to get that last lil bit of air out of the system; i think the throttle body is the high point. I bypassed mine; i don't feel the need to preheat my aircharge. Find a hill.

Its air bubbles in your coolant. You might try "burping" the system. I had this same sound happening before my head gasket went out, at around the same mileage you are at Sucks man, hope thats not it. But at least its under warranty

LOLzes! Funny, i'm still advising the ounce of prevention.

When i said "find a hill", i meant it literally. Find a hill in the road or your driveway/parking lot & park nose up (the car) on it. If you get a good angle, you will make the radiator cap your cooling system's high spot. Let it run until it is warmed up & the air should go there. Try to find a hill by the mall, so you can goof off while it cools a bit. USE a TOWEL & CAUTION when opening the radiator to see if you got some empty space there. I'm sure somebody else has written up better engine burping directions.

FYI, the throttle body coolant bypass is very simple & might get you that extra 1/12th of a hp you've been wanting.

Headgaskets can be detected by getting an oil analysis from Blackstone Labs (cheap). You can also look for shiny stuff in the cylinder (pull plug 1st) or for floaty coolant in your oil, bad bad bad for teh bearings.

Good luck with it.

I appreciate it man!

I was being serious about the hill as well...i need to find a good one...lol.

I think I got it under control, I'm gonna "burp" the engine tonight.

If the headgasket was the problem would I be consuming oil as well? Right now my engine does not consume oil and never has.
