P0462/p0463/u1001
I know I haven't posted here in awhile, but I need some help. Here's the lowdown.
Car: 2003 GXE auto Problem: Threw some codes U1001 - CAN communications P0462 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Low Input P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input The car is having some difficulties starting and sometimes when it does start, it stutters and feels like it is going to stall. This problem is intermittent, but has been a problem for a few months now (it just threw the code). I had the code erased, but the car is still having problems starting. I did some searching on the site and I came across a few answers to this problem. Can anyone help? 1) I need a ECU update 2) Fuel sensor is bad or there is a short circuit 3) Fuel sensor is stuck in an open position http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/show...ighlight=p0462 http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/show...ighlight=p0462 http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/show...ighlight=p0462 Which one should I attack first? I'd rather not take it to the dealer because they will *** rape me on $$ and probably not believe me that I know WTF I am talking about. Thanks |

Assuming the ECU update is free, I would do that first. Just tell the dealer that's the only thing you want. If it solves your troubles, then you are done.
You didn't happen to install any new audio equipment did you? I've had mounting screws go right into the wiring harness.

I got a code for the Fuels Level Sensor Circuit and that will run about $100 in parts if you replace the whole shebang. I have part numbers but I'm not sure if they apply to the '03 since mine's an '02. jenn@westcovina helped me out a ton as far as prices and part numbers. PM her, she'll hook you up.

I'll try my hand at it but I really don't have any experience with this particular combination.
It's unlikely you need an ECU update to fix your problem. However it's not a bad idea to see if there are any ECU updates available. If so, it'll be under a recall, so call your Nissan dealer, feed them your VIN, and ask if you have any open recalls. If you do, make an appointment. Recalls = 100% free. If that doesn't fix the problem, which I don't think it will, then you have to go after the actual component. All the fuel nonsense (pump, level sensor, etc) is all contained in a big plastic canister-like thing in the fuel tank. Take off your back seat (the part you plant your *** on) and you should be able to figure out how to access the canister. Finding the particular component, however, is probably another story... I found this part which might be what you're looking for: http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...2838_2854_2858 ![]() It's number 25060 in the top left there, described as Sender Unit-Fuel Gauge. That's the best I can find that matches "fuel level sensor." It's kind of pricy though, and taking that canister assembly apart probably sucks ***, so it would suck to replace it and have it not solve your problem, but that's the solution I have that best matches your symptoms.

Thanks man. I can take apart the canister if I have to. I did it on my friend's civic (we have a similar canister).
BTW the local nissan dealer want $100 just to hook it up to a computer. |
