Wheel Studs
Wheel studs on a 2003 Sentra GXE; are they the same size all the way around or are they not? I have discs on front, drums on back. According to my Nissan Dealer they're different, but all my local parts stores (AZ, NAPA, Checkers, Advanced) say they're the same. Nissan couldn't tell me what the difference was (they were just guessing that it could be the knurl or length of the studs). The ones I've found at the parts stores had these specs: M12 - 1.25 and 12.35mm knurl. Does anybody know if they are different? And if so, can you tell me the specs?
Also, I autocross my Sentra alot. Is there a good, stronger aftermarket set I could get for mine? I seem to go through at least one bolt/nut at every event. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong since I always put the nuts on by hand all the way. |

My experience is with rear discs, but I know the front studs are usually longer because the front hubs and discs are thicker.
What are you torquing the wheel nuts to? You say 'by hand'- does that mean with a torque wrench? 85lb./ft is the max. you'd want to torque them to. Also, don't change wheels right after your last auto-x lap; everything is hot and you WILL go through more stud and have a hard time torquing your wheels down accurately. I carry a spare front & rear stud with me to all events. If you're determind, you can change them without removing the rotors

dont know for sure, but I could imagine that they are different... I would take the dealers word for it... also from my experience local auto stores have had a hard time distinguishing between QG and a QR trim levels... I went to 4 different auto stores once looking for brake rotors for my QG and every store either gave me the front or rear rotors for the spec
I also had a Guy try to up-sale me on a distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires when all i wanted was spark plugs... I told him the deal and he showed me where the computer had everything listed for the QG ![]() i know it would be a pain in the ***, but hte best way would be to take one out and measure it...

Thanks guys. I'm gonna find out what the sizes are and I'll post the results.
Btw, what's the difference between the OEM and NISMO ones? |
