Brake and Power Steering FLUID

Okay...it's high time I top up my vehicle's essential fluids.

According to the owner's manual - Genuine Nissan PSF II, or equivalent [Dextron Type ATF (PA-GF15?)] as indicated on the power steerring pump cap.
My question: Is Dextron Type ATF tranny fluid?

As for the brake fluid - Genuine Nissan brake fluid, or equivalent [Dot 3 (Narco?)] as indicated on the brake fluid reservoir cap.
My question: Does the OEM Dot 3 have a certain boiling point? Can I use Dot 4?

One more thing...Are these fluids over-priced at the dealer? Duh... that's probably a no-brainer...

For brake fluid you can use just about any type 3 brake fluid. You CAN mix Dot 3 and 4. But I wouldn't, id rather have all 3, or 4.

As for power steering, I would just go to advance auto and buy some power steering for cheap.

If your like me though, buy some Redline PS and flush the system, then convert to Redlines Powersteering Fluid. =D

Thanks...I'm going to keep it all stock. I may siphon the power sterring reservoir and replace it with fresh fluid. That's about it...
Would you know if it's okay to add/mix synthetic fluids with the stock OEM fluids? Does our stock brake fluid (Dot3) have a certain boiling point? I noticed some replacement (brake) fluids at the store with higher boiling points than the 'regular fluid'...

Go with the Dextron (Yes its ATF) for ps. Some ps fluid is intended for GM cars which don't use Dextron.

I need to figure out a new signature.

Okay...so it's run-of-the-mill red auto tranny fluid? The stuff they sell in 1 litre bottles...from Quaker State and the like, right? Not the specially formulated stuff in those small, cute little bottles...

That is correct-nothing special. If you see Mercon IV..that's an upgraded version of Dextron..use that..it has more antiwear in it. But plain ol Dextron is fine.

I need to figure out a new signature.

I went with the Mobil 1 ATF probably cheaper and better than the Nissan stuff. But no big deal.

I need to figure out a new signature.

Bump an old thread...

If I've got a leak and I just need to top it up without any idea about what's in there, is it OK to just add some Dexron VI PS fluid?
