you should be using the auto-tensioner, its very easy to use. you should definately be removing the belt, before you remove the alternator, you dont want to strip bolts or bend stuff.
youre welcome to use the fsm, or the 'search' button in the menubar here's the how-to you are looking for: http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=186772

you can use like a long crowbar or something as well, to lift the alternator with the belt on it to put in the top bolt. just a lot easier to turn the autotensioner and put the belt on, i lean my wrench on my oil filter, which holds the tensioner, and just put the belt back on. just takes a few times, and itll be easy.

Re: belt tensioner
Huh? It's a similar design as many other cars. Neither complicated nor difficult to manipulate.

what ^^^ he said, its very easy once you know where it, which way to turn it, what size socket/wrench you need, etc. the hardest thing is taking the damn plastics off, lol.

lol i hate the belt tensioner it's just in such an awkward location i dont take the plastics off i always go at it from above because im too lazy to take off the plastics.
edit: and now that i really think about it i do more work that way anyway because i have to take out the overflow reservoir... LMAO |
