Hey whats up everybody, just traded my 89 honda prelude for an 03 Sentra se-r spec v. Its a little beat up and needs a little work but I was thinking I had come out on top until I seem to have spun a rod bearing tonight. I was thinking I would rebuild the motor since it had precat problems in the past and was using alot of oil but I need a drivable car right now. When I was at the pull a part the other day I found a base model sentra with the motor almost all the way pulled just sitting on the ground.

Would the 1.8 bolt up to the header/trany/mounts/clutch/harness and everything or am I better off just rebuilding my stock motor?

those were nice preludes, did you have the 4ws with flip-up lights?

if you have all the electronic motor parts, maf, ecu, etc you can swap into the same b15 chassis. not sure how much stuff youll need, but in plain terms, you can swap a qg18 to a qr25. so i would assume you can reverse this process, but the qr25 doesnt use the same ecu or electronics:

rebuild isnt a bad idea, make sure you do the bottom end, with precat failure and burning oil, you fried your oil rings, you would need to examine the pistons and cams, etc. maybe even shave the head. dont forget about 08+ headgasket, 08+ headbolts, jwt bsr, and poly mounts for starters.

Yea, mine was the si 4ws. Had swaped a newer motor and trany in it, replaced the clutch and had a sick header and exhaust on it from obx. It was mostly stock and keeping up with modded mustangs but kept having problems.

The car only has 144k on the dash and the motor was rebuilt before the precat failure, what all do you think would be necessary to replace at this point?

with precat failure, its hard to tell how extensive the damage was. say if you ever ran out of oil, everything that requires oil would gotten excessively worn without oil (cams, pistons, timing chain guides, etc). the damage also becomes great when you introduce the ceramic particles back into the motor (precat failure), this ceramic just causes excessive wear to anything moving inside the motor. the ceramic is know to stick to headgasket liner and clog up the oil rings, causing excessive oil consumption or headgasket failures.

my final precat failure, i rebuilt the motor (before the 08+ stuff), so i used the regular 02-03 rebuild kit and just added poly mounts & bsr while the motor was apart. if the skirts are completely worn, you may need new pistons and a hone, if its that bad, i would examine the head as well. if the skirts just have small/normal wear spots, you can probably just change all the rings & 08+headgasket 08headbolts & stuff, it may be possible that if your head was just rebuilt, it may be fine, just make sure its still level (hopefully you didnt overheat the motor). just make sure the oil and coolant stay clean and full until you rebuild it for minimal damage.

EDIT: and get yourself a catless header so you dont get precat failure.

Thinking about just replacing the motor, what motors bolt up to everything without modification?

for an 03 specv? you would need one from a 02-03 sentra or altima 2.5L, just about everything will bolt up, including the electronics. you can bolt in a 04-06 sentra or altima qr25, but electronics will be different. if youre sticking with the qr25, you should consider a catless header.

Have full obxr header back exhaust bro, I'm thinking I may just get rid of the car though. I hate to give up so early compared to how many times I have fixed the prelude when worse things have happened but I don't really have time to deal with it.

yea precat failure sucks, ive been there. got well over 100k miles after a blown headgasket. ::knock on wood::. the first 100k miles was worse than the last 100k miles. life is more important, do what you need to do.

Have had very few hits on the car so I'm going to start digging into it tomorrow and see if I can figure out why it wont start.

Thinking I may just hang onto the car and fix it when I can, I think its worth it.
