I found some Crown Royal that belonged to my uncle up in the cabinet in my kitchen... its is dated 1977. Is it safe to drink? It has been opened and the bottle is half full

Not in my state.;) I drank some of my grandparents Crown that had been opened. It was from 1970 and tasted smoother than anything I have had. I need to raid their supply as my grandfather has Canadian Club and Crown royal ranging from 1969 to 1978.

weird.

my old neighbor had a really old bottle of crown.
it actually tasted like water. like there wasn't any alcohol in it.
it was really really old, he was mad about it too, cuz his roomate opened up the bottle w/o asking him.

anyways, we tried it, and it wasnt good.

My dad had a "Special Edition" Bottle of Jack Daniels...from '75 or '76 as a gift back in '76 pafter he got hired..

Last year my cousin... decided to open it and have a few drinks of it..

Needless to say... that $1200 bottle of JD is now only worth face value...

NO it is NOT safe....

If the bottle was not opened it would be the best crown around. But, you will get sick as hell if you drink that bottle now...

The ONLY way you won't get sick is if the bottle has been opened recently. Within a couple months. Anything more then that and YOU will get SICK...

I have three special edition bottles signed by the head distiller and they are my pride and joy of my collection.

Did it with JD before. Bottle of my dads that was half full for about 10 years. I drank some (avid drinker by the way) and I almost went to the hospital. Worse then food poisoning. :( It sucked... That was only 10-year-old opened bottle I can't imagine how sick that one would make you.

I call BS. I have been drinking from the collection my grandparents have for years and never once gotten sick. Opened and unopened bottles ranging from '69 on. It must have been something else. Maybe something growing on the bottle.

Not that you are lying tattude, but I doubt it had to do with the age of the alcohol itself.

If you have liquor bottles that have been opened for more then 10 years you donít drink very much. Liquor is NOT wine and wine SUCKS too if left open for a long time. When a bottle is sealed everything is ALL GOOD. When you have a bottle OPENED (key word) then unless I had the most coincidental thing happen to me that day it had to be the liquor.

You did. I am telling you I have been drinking stuff open for 30 years. And liquor is alot different than wine due to the alc. content.

well he was probably assuming that no matter if it was bad or not a shot wont kill you but if it was nasty it would make you sick. But I was on the side of james on this one. Ive drank 20 and 30 year old scotch opened and other than drinking too much and puking i was fine:)

It should taste just like normal crown. Maybe worse cause water purification is better now, but those liquors stop aging once they are taken out of the barrel so its not like 50 years old bottle of whiskey is any better then a bottle made last year. Now if they changed the recipe or something it may taste different. . .

I love Crown.. :) Drank a fifth of it for New Years this year.. ;) And 2 shots of Everclear as a dare by one of my friends. Oddly enough, I didn't get sick! I was drunk as hell, but I kept eating hotdogs, so I think that's what kept me alive.
