View Full Version : Best SQ amps??
pugnex 02-07-2004, 02:59 PM What would you guys pick as the best amps for sound quality.
Nakamichi, JL, Xtant, Tru, Pioneer? (I included pioneer because in my experience they seem to be extrememly good for what you pay, but there are better amps)
Nakamichi doesn't seem to be that popular, but they have a reputation in being above and beyond the competition in terms of circuitry quality. JL seems to be the "mainstream" popular brand in terms of quality and power. I don't know much about Tru, but they seem to be very good as well. Xtant, high priced which means it should carry the quality along with it, but is the price warranted?
Oh, I'm looking for a good 4 way amp by the way, no mono amps at this time.
vbspecv 02-07-2004, 03:01 PM XTANT refurbs are going for cheap on ebay. TheStereoDirect ebay store is Mitek, who is the parent company of XTANT.
My refurb came broken but when I get it back I will tell you what I think.
You could also try arc audio
2001 SE #2 02-07-2004, 03:44 PM what speakers are you running, and what headunit?
getting the best amp is worthless if you have crappy speakers or headunit
sentrabeast 02-07-2004, 03:46 PM He's right, your system is only as good as your weakest link. Personally in terms of multi channel, i would go with RF because they make pretty decent multi's, but thats just me.
pugnex 02-07-2004, 04:16 PM Don't have anything yet, but was lookin at the nakamichi cd-400 deck. I don't need all those fancy bells and whistles that most HU's have these days and the nakamichi's seem to be very plain and straight forward, just what I want.
sentrabeast 02-07-2004, 04:20 PM going on the cheaper side of things? clarion has some nice inexpensive HU's, check them out
2001 SE #2 02-07-2004, 04:54 PM Have you looked at that RF unit at all?
The rebadged Denon is the one I'm talking about, looks very nice, doesn't have all the special features, and it's supposed to have exceptional sound quality.
And Nak isn't "on the cheaper side of things"....
sentrabeast 02-07-2004, 05:00 PM He just said that he wants something very straightforward and simple, which usually goes for the cheaper side of things, i was just asking a question.
2001 SE #2 02-07-2004, 05:08 PM ah
well Nak and that Denon/RF are both no-frills decks, but they are not cheap. You pay for the high quality parts and exceptional sound quality, not for the tuning and graphical abilities.
sentrabeast 02-07-2004, 05:23 PM gotcha
spec cloud 9 02-07-2004, 07:23 PM for cheaper decks look at the alpine for 299 at crutchfield. as far as amps for a sub amp if you dont want much power the xtant 301a-max is going for 155 off of mitekfactoryoutlet.com. also for amps look into arc wich are pricey but very nice also look into the older kicker amps like the zr360 or xs50 awesome amps.
pugnex 02-07-2004, 08:44 PM The nak deck I am looking at is about $370 or so. You don't get all the fancy graphics or anything, so while it may seem cheaper than others, you are only paying for the sound, no bells and whistles.
seven6ty 02-08-2004, 02:23 AM FU(K the graphics and bells and whistles.
sentrabeast 02-08-2004, 04:52 PM Yeah, who needs bells and whistles anyways, I wanna see some damn swimming dolphins on my amp, now that is graphics!!! I am actually thinking of switching my current amp with a RF 1500 bd, its pretty sweet, and its going for just SPL (which I am looking for) to round out my system. (Note to all, yes I was being sarcastic about the dolphins, damn)
2001 SE #2 02-08-2004, 05:12 PM I dunno, I think swimming dolphins on an amp would be pretty nice....
sentrabeast 02-08-2004, 06:38 PM I think that is almost quotable!!!!!
Monk_04SER 02-08-2004, 08:58 PM of the choices i gotta say xtant. but if you have the money get a butler tube driver 475
vbspecv 02-09-2004, 09:08 AM If you like the RF/denon unit, I may have one for cheap in a few weeks.
If I get my one warrantied I will have another new one for sale, cheaper then that price.
