I recently installed a new Alpine 9815. Well everything is great but bass is severely decreased, despite having the sub w set at 15. EQ is set flat and sub is set to on, I tried mono and stereo options without luck.
Previously I was running the factory HU with a line out converter to an MTX 4202 to an MTX 6000 12". This set up gave me great volume.
What went wrong???

You'll have to up the gain on the amp to compensate for Alpine's sub-outs. Unfortunately they suck... some say that at 29 volume and sub at 15 it still reaches just 2.7V instead of the 4V out. Reset your amps gains to the correct level for the head unit and you should be fine.

I second that. I put my gains for my sub section higher than i normally would, since i have alpine sub outs. It didnt seem to sound bad and got loud enough.
an example on my 4 channel.
my front gains are 1/2 way between 0 and 1/4.
my sub gains are at 1/4.
So my sub gains are "twice" what my front gains are. I never really put my sub outs lower than +15, except on some really loud rap and techno.

I uh, third that motion, just check your gains and adjust accordingly to what you think is gonna sound good. It took me a good hour to get the right setup for what I wanted, but thank god that I have that remote bass boost in my center console pop-up, so I can adjust on the go.

speaking of these decks... (9813 in my case).. I'm gonna finally hear that V-drive power.. since i have Focal Polyglass in my rear deck, unhooked at the moment, I'm gonna throw some deck power on them to make use. I can fade them in or out as I feel like it. Just to be safe, I'm gonna attach my deck 12+ to battery power, rather than stock radio harness. I want every bit of juice i can get for those.

It seems the Alpine sub is a problem on some 9xxx models? On my 7995 (no internal amp), I have the gains barely up on the 500/1. Actually, I use 2 JLs and on both the gains are set almost the same for fronts (300/2) and sub.

You can turn the internal amp off on the 9815. Maybe that will help?

With all of the upper Alpine HU, IE 9813, 9815, you HAVE to set the internal EQ properly. Turn your subwoofer output off, then tune your speakers inside the car with low, mid, & high tones. Then turn the subwoofer output back on (all through the head unit I mean) and tune that on. be sure to take full advantage of your headunit's potential by READING THE MANUAL. Yes, I have problems with reading the manual, but thats the only way you can get the full potential out of your unit.
