View Full Version : Installing Amp behind seat, what to do about brackets
JMotorsprt 02-05-2004, 04:03 PM I am finally getting around to ripping my car apart to do a small install done. When I rippped the seat out in my Spec V there are some braces running across the back that I have never heard or read about.
What did you guys do with these braces?
Do I just remove the five pieces toss them aside?
Or work around a few of them?
Or should I not remove any of them and find a new location to mount my Amp?
What is the Structural purpose? Is there a structural purpose?
Are they to stiffen up the Spec V body?
Thanks
Jason
GregFarz78 02-05-2004, 05:08 PM Do you have the fold down seats? I think the brackets are only there if you dont have the fold down seats. If you're hesitant about ripping them out check out my other thread about amp racks or talk to 03blackout he has pics of his amp rack setup.
DevlynSyde 02-05-2004, 06:38 PM The brace that runs across the hole? I tore it out and threw it in a box :) Haven't noticed anything...

Spec V does not have fold down seats.
Devlyn, did you only take off the bracket that ran across? There are some other pieces that are powder coated the same color. Trying to figure out if they should come out.

seven6ty 02-05-2004, 07:04 PM Yeah, mine has fold down seats.
JMotorsprt 02-05-2004, 07:07 PM That sucks. Mine didn't.
havok247 02-05-2004, 07:09 PM If your talking about the beams INSIDE the back of the rear seats then we used them when my amp was mounted. And yes my seats fold down. Does someone's not?
JMotorsprt 02-05-2004, 07:12 PM Mine does not. But the supports I am talking about would probaly be mounted quite a bit lower if you guys have fold down seats.

n8innv 02-05-2004, 07:17 PM On the Spec-vs with the Audio Fanatic package, they have a passanger side fold down seat in the rear.. i believe they dont have any braces that go behind the carpeting.. behind the rear seat.. personally i think it is just there for support, and to add just more reinforcement.. im sure if u take it out it wont hurt to much, since AF people dont have it.. i think it is just to hold the seats up more...
NISMO82 02-05-2004, 07:30 PM i took that bracket off and put a carpeted piece of wood that i cut a bunch of times behind the seat, bought some L brackets and bent them screwed them in place ran my wires put my amp on and that was all she wrote.
but be prepared to spend a lot of time making the wood fit right and putting a bunch of brackets in, now i have no system and the bar is still sitting in my closet
and if u get the Rockford fosgate package then you do have fold down seats like 2001 SE #2 said
havok247 02-05-2004, 07:37 PM No the braces are there (small as hell tho) I took out my POS RF sub long time ago and just went and checked, not sure if they really accomplish anything. Why would you want to remove them tho? My amp (rather the board the amp is ON) was drilled to them. And I haven't had any problems what so ever.
seth7685 02-05-2004, 08:21 PM I took that black plastic piece out layed it on a thin piece of wood traced it then cut it out. then mounted my amp to the wood. Then to get it to stay i got on the inside of the car and drilled 2 holes put 2 4" long bolts and bolted the wood in places. You can see them in the pictures. I hope this helps.

NISMO82 02-05-2004, 09:45 PM looks pretty good
GregFarz78 02-05-2004, 10:14 PM The spec v's with the AF package have fold down seats...both seats fold down not just the passenger. Any of you guys ever read the owners manual? lol
JMotorsprt 02-06-2004, 12:48 AM I finally gave up. I am calling an installer. Putting everything back tomorrow and looking for a second amp to run that Infinity Perfect sitting in the garage. Screw the excess weight and trying to keep things hidden in stock locations. I quit.

mumra 02-06-2004, 09:04 AM I left mine in place (support bar) and wedged my amp rack in at the bottom and bolted in from the top. My amp rack is actually inside the trunk and is very secure. I just used that plastic board that was back there as a template for cutting the rack. This isnt the best pic but maybe you can get the idea...
