View Full Version : The verdict...
schutney 01-30-2004, 11:56 PM Well i posted a thread a couple weeks ago asking whether the kicker 600.1 or jL 500/1 was better, and now that i have had my JL installed id have to say the kicker BLOWS it out of the water.
I had my kicker powering my 2 12" phx gold xs124s and the JL is powering 2 10" phx gold tantrum x's but considering the 10" tantrum x's are rated higher i dont think it has anything to do with the subs being bigger that came with the kicker.
I will soon post pics of my old setup and my new setup.
Noggin 01-31-2004, 12:20 AM rated "higher"? Higher in what? If they're better for SQ applications then its no wonder that the Kicker is better, if you're looking for loudness.
What you really have to do to compare the two amps is just swap the amps. As for my opinion on them, I'd rather have the JL 500 than the Kicker 600. Why? Name only, they're both good amps. But its not a fair comparison to change two things and blame it on one.
Why'd you change them anyway?
jedibow 01-31-2004, 12:34 AM You have to remember that a smaller diameter speaker cannot hit the lower frequencys like a larger diameter speaker can... Thus ratings have nothing to do with it other than more power handling. The lower the frequency the more you "feel" the sound waves. So the JL might actually be the better amp, but is held to the ability of your subs....
2001 SE #2 01-31-2004, 01:20 AM you can't switch out your amp and subs and then blame all differences on the amp. Take your JL right now (or the kicker, whichever isn't installed), and hook it up to the SAME subs to do a comparison.
baboyd 01-31-2004, 01:43 AM besides who said his box was built correctly for the 10's? That could make all the difference in the world.
evangelos K 01-31-2004, 02:44 AM What you mean "rated higher"? So the new 10'' are more watts RMS?
If thats the case, lets see: you had two 12'' w/ LESS RMS and now you switched to two 10'' (smaller) w/ MORE RMS (meaning they need more watts to play loud) and you are complainig? It sounds logical to me you get less output now, if SPL is what you are talking about.
Weapon_X 01-31-2004, 02:46 AM i say your crazy i sell both amps and hands down the 500/1 is a way better amp more versatile and out classes it in all ways except when hooking a kicker sub up. the 600.1 may only do around 700+ watts where a 500/1 will probably do 800wts easily, at 4 Ohm load and at 12.5 Volts where as the 600.1 has to be at 2 ohms and at 14.4 to get that 700+ watts.
But if you don't belive wait till 2006 when the CES standards are being enforced for power ratings on all amplifiers

info ***** info!!!!! :)
whitesent 01-31-2004, 12:21 PM i think he's reffering to something you will see very soon, no more of these 60w x 4 decks, get ready to see numbers like 10,12,18 watts per channel. real power not pmpo, or struck by lightning, makes its power for a millisecond. real power output.
placenta 01-31-2004, 02:14 PM a 500/1 will probably do 800wts easily
Lemme have a hit of whatever you're smoking dude. and paste up a review showing where a JL 500/1 hit 800Wrms x 1 @ 4 ohm.
found it myself.. an independent review..

800Wrms was just retarded.. The 600-650Wrms i can beleive, as seen in that independent review.

Yeah, it wont do 800WRMS, but 733WRMS is pretty good for a 500WRMS amp.
placenta 01-31-2004, 06:25 PM the 4 ohm in that statement is a important part.
thumper10s 01-31-2004, 09:19 PM poor efficiency too
specracer2 01-31-2004, 09:24 PM sell your amp and get the kicker 50 watt that actually puts out 1100 watts
therealjoob 01-31-2004, 10:30 PM Audio is all in the ear of the beholder. Dont blame the poor guy. If he likes the kicker over the JL then so be it. The JL amps are overpriced anyway- not that the kicker isnt but it IS cheaper then the JL. Both produce good power but as stated before you cant judge an amp while using different subs - or boxes.
And if you want the only truthfull power out on the market go with crossfire. They show their RMS ratings on the box not peek power. :)
schutney 02-02-2004, 07:21 PM sorry about the long response been moving didnt have net access
and yea i know u cant compare em with different subs
but still my old setup bass wise with the kicker blew away the JL set up
and the reason i switched em is cuz the kicker set up got stolen
