View Full Version : battery terminals
Gandalf 01-29-2004, 05:53 PM how hard would it be to change the battery terminals to something like this?

they look pretty nice and would make upgrades a cinch. The negative is obviously very easy, but I'm worried the positive may be a huge PITA since I would think you have to cut the existing terminals off thus not leaving enough wire left to make it to the battery, so you would have to then extend the wire (which I've never done...gues it cant be too hard). Ya gotta agree they look really hot though:)
sherwell 01-29-2004, 06:08 PM I just went out an looked at my battery terminals and i woudl have to say that the positive is maybe just long enough. But seriously i think that you would have to extend it.
It looks like it is rather easy to replace though, you will notice the positive cable goes directly into your fuse box. If you take off the cover you can see where it attaches, just cut yourself a new length and replace the entire thing.
whitesent 01-29-2004, 06:09 PM in regards to doing the + terminal in my b14 i was able to trace most of the wires back and find wire clips that could be removed and it gave me the extra inch or so i needed. should be the same on the b15.
Gandalf 01-30-2004, 02:36 AM Hmm...I wonder if the fuse box will take a 1/0 gauge input then....if I'm gonna be doing all this changing might as well use the biggest wire that will fit in the new termianls (they have one 1/0 output and two 4 gauge outputs.) Anyone know if the 1/0 will work?

No. It won't.
You have to run the wire up the bottom of the fuse box to the top. I did this when I changed my terminals. Besides, 1/0 is overkill there. I used 8 gauge at the fuse box, a reducer for my 4 gauge amp wire to make is 8 gauge, and 4 gauge for the starter wire. Now, you could use 1/0 on the starter just fine, but it's also overkill.

CustomSentra1 01-30-2004, 11:48 AM I have a terminal like that on my battery. I'll get a pic of it today for you to take a look. Its long enough, the only thing you have to do it flatten the positive terminal ring a little bit to make it fit.
mumra 01-30-2004, 06:28 PM I changed my neg terminal when I did the magic upgrade. The neg was fairly easy. I'll probably do the other one sometime this summer.

Gandalf 01-30-2004, 06:31 PM nice. I'm such an electrical noob (should have done more EE and less CSC) but I never quite undersand why the negative terminal for the car just goes ground to the body yet I can run my amp power wire from the negative....damn I'm a n00B:) The negative looks very easy, but I just went and checked the positive and it doesnt look as easy, there are 2 wires coming out from that terminal. One goes to the fuse box (4 gauge looks like it would fit) and the other goes to some sort of pump right below the fuse box. I'm not sure how easy it will be to upgrade those wires.
placenta 01-30-2004, 08:20 PM i saw the positive terminal as having one 4 gauge and one 8 gauge stock. maybe i was mistaken. and then i have my 4 gauge power to my amps.
so i want a terminal that has two 4 gauge inputs, and one 8 gauge input. i have yet to find one.
i can attach my 0 gauge magic wire to a top terminal.
placenta 01-31-2004, 03:00 AM i confirmed my above post. stock battery terminal has one 4 gauge and one 8 gauge.
plus i have a 4 gauge and a 0 gauge in addition to the stockers..
still trying to find how i can hook up all 4 wires in a clean fashion.

haha, I have the stock wires, plus 3 4ga. My + terminal is a big bunch of wires, I need a new terminal pretty badly.
Do they make any with 4 4ga and 1 8ga inputs?

on your first picture, I see that you upgraded the - battery terminal and you have the Black wire going to the chassy and the grey wire going to somewhere. What is that grey wire for? Is that just an extra ground wire for the - battery?

specvguy 04-06-2004, 04:49 AM how many inputs/out puts do I need for each terminal? and what size opening do I need? I think for the - I need 2 4gauge. how bout the +? how many and how big?
Also what type is best? I saw gold, nickel platted, and platnum.

you need a 4 and an 8 for the + terminal, plus whatever you have attached to it
you need a 4 for the - terminal, plus whatever you have attached to it
