Just kinda wondering if anyone has ever even heard these speakers. thezeb.com sells the components for around $550 (good deal) 2-way, $730 for 3-ways. I figure the 2-ways seem about the same price as the Focal Poly's, so just wondering why everyone goes with the focals and no one has tried these yet.

well ive got the newest model CDT HD-62's......and they're astounding, much better than the alpine type-x's that got replaced

and the hd's are just the middle line........im sure the eurosports would be more than you could ask for (imo $550 is an awesome deal)

as for a comparo, i dont know........so i can't help with that

by the way, since you're in NC.......the zeb will hit you with sales tax. So what i did when i bought my cdt's was price match them with another online retailer that wasn't even authorized who was selling them for like $40 less than the zeb. So i pretty much cancelled out the sales tax..........

um, the focal polys are $210, don't know what prices you've heard
Maybe you're thinking of the Focal Utopias? Those are up in that range. Personally I'd take the Utopias first, though I have heard some good things about the Eurosports.

I had the HD, great speakers. I am pretty sure the Eurosports are awesome, but for $525 I got the Focal Utopias shipped, and my search for perfection ended :D

It is a speculation, but I dont think the ES would be better than the Utopias.

its more a question of silk vs. titanium domes...thats about it. focals are a little brighter IMHO.

Mostly, yeah. But I sure the midbass/mids sound a lot different on these two sets too. I just LOVE the Utopias. And I am "proud" to say I have "tamed" the Focal tweeters by bi-amping (on their own Zapco amp). MAN, I seriously cannot live w/o them, SO MUCH DETAIL and information revealed, and I am serious when I say they play like super extra sharp high end silks, NO harshness whatsoever.

Can I borrow some money evangelos? I'm good for it, I swear. I can fly down to New Orleans to pick it up... I think AirTran flies there... it would be another good excuse to get wasted up front... ?

evangelosK...I want someone else's opinion; esp with that reference to the different midbass sound. having heard both, what are your opinions (granted i know you are only pushing 2-ways rather than the full 3, but the cross and the midbass are about the same in the CDTs; and Focals getting a slight upgrade in cross and midbass in the Utopia line).

As I said, I havent heard the ES line, but I owned the HDs.

Compared to the Utopias.... I do not know how to exactly describe it... The HD midbass was really present and "thick." The Utopias have more "punch" kinda like a "dry, punchy midbass" that hits you, as opposed to a kinda "warmer" type from the CDT HD. If this makes sense, The HDs were thicker and impactfull to the ear, while the Utopias are punchier and impactfull to the chest, lol. It seems to me the Utopias are cleaner and do not color the sound.

The mids are just so perfect on the Utopias. More forward and cleaner. Given, the tweeter plays a great role here though as it has its share in the mid freq. The CDT's philosophy is to cross the tweeter high, around 4.8-5Khz, as opposed to the 3Khz on the Utopias.

I would say that the Utopia are more than a slightly upgrade in the Focal line. The W cone is just a piece of art. Never seen such a light cone in any speaker, you will understand the quality if you saw them in person.

I want to be honest and tell you that before the bi-amping, the Utopias were just good speakers. When I bi-amped it was like I changed my whole setup, that much of a difference; from good to breath-taking. It can be b/c of many factors.... like I did not let the speakers brake in (They DO NEED a break-in time, the difference is SO obvious in SQ day by day). Or/and that they need a lot of wattage, now the mid itself gets 150WRMS. Or/and that the crossover design bypasses some filters when by-amping... or that the power distribution to mid/tweeters favored the tweeter on the x-over. But seriously, if you get the Utopias and bi-amp, seek no further... It is not that expensive to go bi-amped either, I got my Zapco refference 150 for $100. A zapco studio 50 (which is a model up than the refference) can be found for $60 on e-bay. You need something in the lines of 2x25 to 2x40 (w/ gains min.) to drive the TN51s.
