I'm really confused about installing some new front speakers. I just got a set of CDT CL-61s that I want to install tomorrow, but while searching install threads I keep running across people talking about needing spacers...like this:

I thought our cars had 6.5" fronts, so that's what size of speakers I got...but do I need some kind of extra spacer for the install?

I really want to get this done tomorrow, and I don't have any of these spacers, so am I going to be able to install without them? If they are absolutely necessary, can they be bought somewhere retail instead of having to wait a week to order them?

unless it is a really shallow speaker, you'll need the spacer for the depth. Without it, chances are that the window glass will hit the speaker when they are rolled down. I believe the fronts are 6 3/4 with only 1.9375" depth. Not too deep.

I just measured them and the speakers are almost exactly 2 and 3/4 inches deep. Anyone know if that's shallow enough to clear the window?

If I need to get spacers, are they available at retail audio stores at all?

no, but seriously... some people have been able to find 6 3/4" - 6 1/2" mounting adapters and stack 3 on top of each other... they are made of abs plastic... check some local big chain stores, as well as high-end install shops... they may be able to cook something up for you...

yes you do. I also have the same speakers and you will need then they almost fit but barely.

You can also use the Metra front door kit for a 95 Geo Metro. That is what I used on mine and haven't had any probs.
