At yesterday's SASCA (http://www.conehunter.com) autocross I took top in class for the second time (first time at SASCA). Results are here (http://www.conehunter.com/results0702.txt) -- scroll down to Novice.

This was also my very first time out on the new HTR Z IIs. In a world, they felt lightyears better than the Firehawks. I DNFed my first run because I was focussing on the tires, went the wrong way at the end of a sweeper, and blew off the Chicago box at the end of it. After that my times went down as I gradually figured out how much more I could push the tires, and the way they wanted to handle. There was alot more time out there I could have made up -- hopefully I'll be even faster at my next event in two weeks. :)

As for their actual feel -- very, very good. Prodigious levels of grip. Running at 45/35, the fronts roll to almost a perfect degree. But, best of all, the rear end feels almost neutral; I spent some of the day reacquanting myself with what it feels like to drive a car that seems almost willing to oversteer at times. Definitely fun.

I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and my performance yesterday. Good day.

Congrats on the win. What kind of nissan was the other one in your class(think he finished 7th)?

It was an S13 240sx. Very, very odd sound to it... almost turbine-like, yet he runs it as stock. I meant to ask him what he has on it, but he left before I could. I didn't sweat it too much, since his times weren't all that great, either. :)

Probably had a turbo(they sometimes run in wrong classes from lack of knowledge). As for the times, I thought it might have been a B14 since they get slow times too, but 240's aren't really good at auto-x either. In my region most 240's get similar times to mine, with the exception of like 1 of them that is quick. Guess they're only good for drag and track driving.

Yeah... the 46/146 Honda that ran in Novice was mis-classed; had (at least) an intake on. Wasn't about to protest it, though. This guy, though... didn't sound like a turbo. Sounded most just like a big-*** fan. It was weird.

There's a guy in Spokes who turns really fast times in a lightly prepped 240. Go to http://www.spokes.org, and look at any of the recent results for Tak Inoue. For the most part, though, you're right, I think.

Yeah, he's one of the exceptions. The majority of S chassis cars, at least here in SF Region, are either understeering badly or oversteering to the joy of onlookers. While it looks cool watching them semi-drift around the course, it hurts their times like you wouldn't believe.
